Istorija žena je svuda
Women’s History is Everywhere
Women's achievements, circumstances, and contributions to society have often been overlooked, misrepresented, or marginalised within traditional museums, archives, and in the overall creation and use of history. The gender gap will not decrease by itself – it requires collective action to effect change.
In the exhibition ИСТОРИЈА ЖЕНА ЈЕ СВУДА (Women’s History is Everywhere), the Stockholm Museum of Women's History illustrates how women's history can be brought to light and integrated into new contexts and settings. By demonstrating how history can be made visible in everyday life, we aim to inspire you to explore the hidden stories in your own surroundings.
To raise the pen like a sword
Taking place in the National Library, surrounded by countless written words, the exhibition also looks into what the pen can tell us about women’s history. The pen has been an essential tool for influencing those in power and the public, but not everyone has had equal opportunities to have their words spread or heard.
Ink of change: Katarina Taikon's pen and activism
Over the years, an increasing number of voices have emerged through the written word. One of them is Katarina Taikon (1932–1995), the Swedish-Roma author whose books and activism changed the living conditions for thousands of people.
The exhibition will be available at the National Library of Serbia from 13 March to 27 March. It was inaugurated by Vladimir Pištalo, Director of the National Library of Serbia and H.E. Anika Ben David, Ambassador of Sweden in Serbia. After, Stockholm Museum of Women’s History and our partners arranged a conference in with presentations and workshops for Serbian library staff and researchers.
THE PARTNERSHIP
Through this partnership between the National Library of Serbia, the Embassy of Sweden in Belgrade, and Stockholm Museum of Women's History, we want to shed light on the significance of women throughout history.
