Learn about: The invisibility of endometriosis

Did you know that one out of ten born with a uterus suffer from endometriosis? Still, the disease is fairly unknown among the public. Join us for key insights into health, gender, and social justice. No prior knowledge is required.

Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological condition, often called the “missed disease”, due to gaps in knowledge about its causes, diagnosis, and treatment. Unlike conditions like diabetes or asthma, it has been largely ignored in health policies and research funding globally.

In this talk, Professor Nicky Hudson will discuss how outdated beliefs about menstruation and pelvic pain have fueled misconceptions, often blaming women for their own suffering. Using the concept of ‘undone science,’ Hudson will show how the experiences of those with endometriosis have often been overlooked in research and policy, raising the question: why is it still ignored?

This session offers key insights into how reproductive health and chronic illness connect, and how these issues are shaped by broader social and political forces. It will be engaging for anyone interested in health, gender, or social justice. No prior knowledge is required.
